Looking for a meals under $10? Wanna have steak? Me too! We are champions of cheap and tasty meals around our house. That’s a big reason why I do so much grilling in the first place. You have to get creative sometimes to make a less than stellar cut of meat into a great meal. This is a pretty easy meal that we have fairly often.

Cuts of Meat for Meals Under $10

The cut of meat that we’re using is labeled as a “pork shoulder blade steak.” It’s not really the most appetizing sound, but this is basically a sliced up pork shoulder like you would use to make pulled pork. There are other cuts of pork under $10 that will do as well.

The key to not having chewy or tough steak is to cook it slow, using indirect heat. You can check out my post about Indirect Grilling to see how I set up my grill for this.

I don’t use a bunch of seasoning to start. I normally just use a little seasoning salt, or do plain salt and pepper. You can use any seasoning you’d like. Put them on the grill as shown.

Searing is not necessary. I just let them go for about 15 to 20 minutes, then flip long ways away from the heat and then let them go until they reach 160 with a meat thermometer.

We served these with Brussels sprouts, but you can use any vegetable you like. This made 4 servings and the total cost was $8.71. That’s just a tad over $2 per meal. I’m a big guy and I really only needed one of these to get full. I hope this is helpful for those times when you need a great meal and want to find cheap meals under $10 to get you through the week. Now get to grilling!
